The Long-Term Benefits of Spray Foam for Industrial Buildings
From energy efficiency to structural integrity, spray foam delivers lasting value.

Medium-density spray foam insulation increases the structural strength of your home by over 200%. Applied into all cavities, a structure becomes more rigid — so issues such as settling and creaky floors are moderated. Spray foam will not settle or shrink, and it adheres to almost any surface, including wood, metal, concrete and most plastics.
Closed-cell spray foam is dense and rigid, and it bonds to the framing and sheathing it is applied against. That adhesion means the wall assembly works more as a unit, which measurably increases racking strength, the assembly's resistance to lateral forces such as wind. No other common insulation contributes anything structurally.
The benefit is most useful in metal buildings, agricultural structures and pole barns, where the cladding is thin and the frame relies on bracing. It also matters on exposed sites and in retrofit work where you want to stiffen an existing assembly without opening up the structure to add bracing.
To be clear, nobody should choose spray foam purely for structural reasons, and it is not a substitute for engineered bracing where that is required. It is a genuine additional benefit that comes along with the insulation and air-sealing you were installing anyway.
The increase in racking strength that closed-cell foam contributes has been measured in standardised assembly testing, and it is a genuine structural contribution rather than a marketing claim. It comes from adhesion: because the cured foam bonds to both the framing and the sheathing, the assembly resists distortion as a unit instead of as separate components relying on fasteners alone.
From energy efficiency to structural integrity, spray foam delivers lasting value.
