Benefits

Draft Resistant

An insulation, air barrier and vapour barrier — all in one application.

Draft Resistant

Conventional insulation, such as fibreglass batt, provides a poor barrier against air leakage since it is unlikely to fill all cracks and seams. When professionally applied by a certified 613 Spray Foam installer, spray foam expands to seal virtually all spaces where air may escape or enter a structure. Drafts are stopped from coming in and air leaking out is eliminated! The energy needed to maintain a preferred indoor temperature is greatly reduced, resulting in energy savings. Medium-density spray foam acts as insulation, air barrier and vapour barrier, all in one application.

What Causes a Draft

A draft is air movement, not low temperature. Warm air escapes high in the building and cold air is drawn in low down to replace it, creating a current you feel at floor level and around windows. This is called stack effect, and it gets stronger the colder it is outside, which is why drafts are worst on the coldest days.

  • Rim joist, the leakiest detail in most houses
  • Attic hatch and recessed light fixtures
  • Around window and door frames
  • Electrical outlets on exterior walls
  • Where the floor meets an exterior wall

Why Foam Stops It and Batts Do Not

Batt insulation slows heat conduction but does very little to stop air passing through or around it. Spray foam expands on contact and adheres to the surfaces it touches, sealing the irregular gaps that are impossible to fill neatly with a pre-cut batt. Once the air path is closed, the draft stops.

A Noticeable Difference Indoors

Of all the improvements insulation delivers, this is the one people notice first. Rooms stop having cold corners, floors stop feeling cold underfoot, and the house stops feeling different depending on which way the wind is blowing.
