Improves Air Quality

Spray foam insulation in your home or business will improve air quality. A continuous, airtight seal prevents pollutants such as dust from invading a structure, and spray foam exceeds all building codes for air barrier systems. It contains no loose particles that may adversely affect indoor air quality, and medium-density foam is also mould and moisture resistant — a particular concern when insulating a below-grade structure such as a basement.

Controlling What Gets In

Air that leaks into a building is unfiltered. It arrives through the crawl space, the attic, the garage and the wall cavities, carrying whatever is in those spaces with it: dust, mould spores, soil gases, insulation fibres, vehicle exhaust. Sealing the envelope means fresh air enters through your ventilation system, where it can be filtered and controlled, rather than through the structure.

Humidity Is an Air Quality Issue

Ottawa summers are humid, and uncontrolled humid air entering a cool building condenses inside the assembly. Keeping that air out helps hold indoor humidity in a comfortable range, which in turn discourages mould and dust mites, both common triggers for asthma and allergies.

Ventilate Deliberately

A tighter building needs planned ventilation. That is a feature rather than a drawback, because controlled ventilation through an HRV or ERV brings in filtered air and recovers heat from the air it exhausts, which a random collection of leaks cannot do.
